CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL GUIDE

CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL GUIDE
WHAT TO WEAR

Guys, listen up! Leave those shiny suits at home and dress like you belong at the home of jump racing.

START AT THE TOP

If hats are your thing then get something that makes you look like a the Champion Trainer and not a Chimney Sweep from Victorian times.

The Thurlow Trilby's from Hicks and Brown are available in Navy, Brown (pictured), Dark Green and Grey. If a flat cap is more your thing then keep the tweed subtle like the Schoffel Sandringham Tweed (pictured)

JACKETS

The showpiece of any outfit at the races is the jacket. Cheltenham is renowned for its tweed and there's some stunning tweeds out there. We love the Holland Cooper St James Jacket with the Prince of Wales check and burgundy trim and collar (pictured). The Holland Cooper tawny Finsbury Over Coat (pictured) is also beautiful but you need to be the right height and shape to suit them. If you want something a little more simple but just as stylish, the Oliver Brown Eaton Jacket is perfect.

UNDER THE JACKET

It's not compulsory to wear a shirt and tie. If your jacket has a lot going on, keep your shirt plain in a white or pale blue. Stay clear of a different colour collar to the shirt, it really isn't a good look. If your jacket is one colour then you can jazz it up a bit with a simple colour-matching check.

If you don't want to wear a shirt every day then a roll neck under a jacket looks just as smart. Always aim for a charcoal, navy, black or burgundy to match a colour withing the jacket.

TROUSERS

A nicely fitted pair of navy chinos will more or less go with any outfit. If you are going to go for a beige, royal blue or burgundy pair, make sure they match your shoes. Navy will more or less go with anything. Stay clear of jeans and shiny suit trousers, or shiny suits in general for that matter.

If you want to go a little bit old school then a thin corduroy or moleskin trouser in a colour that matches your jacket.

ON YOUR FEET

Unless you are wearing a lot of black then stay away from black shoes. Trainers are an obvious no no and wearing loafers without socks not only looks stupid but is also plain daft in March. A classic Chelsea boot or brogue is all you need. However, make sure they suit the trouser you choose to wear. As we mentioned above, a blue chino will go with either very well.

The Chocolate Suede Chelsea Boot (pictured) is a real winner. Country, classy and sturdy for a days racing.

EXTRAS

We have been lucky with the weather in the last couple of years but if Cheltenham is cold, it's bitter. You should also be prepared for rain and although there is more cover than ever at the racecourse, if you want to see a race and it's raining, they you will probably get wet.
