When our phone buzzed and the message from Helen, @SmoothasHelen on twitter, read "I'm learning how to Cut-throat shave men, would you like to be a model" I didn't hesitate to say yes. It was after I agreed that the word "learning" rang some alarm bells! Were there more than one model? Well yes there were as I was given the 11.30am time slot.. although, for all I knew, that could have been the first slot of the day!
Helen's day job, hence the twitter handle, is a waxing therapist for men and women based in Chipping Norton. I only found out, after reading one of her tweets, that she had only started "learning" the previous day. This didn't deter me.
Led up to her spacious treatment room I was greeted by Mark, the tutor and close shave expert. I was completely unaware that this was Mark Sproston, the man behind The Shave Doctor wet shave products.
Helen began shaving in the direction of hair growth. The sound of hair being shaved on my face was rare as it must be at least 7 years since my last wet shave. Shaving creme was re-applied and this time shaving went against the direction of hair growth.
Straight after a cold towel was applied for two minutes instantly followed by a hot towel for the same amount of time.
Mark came over for an inspection and as he felt my face I could feel the slightly peculiar, yet tremendously, smoothness of my skin. My shave was given the thumbs up.
Cooling gel was applied and there was no sign of either rash or blood spots that are both reasonably common. This was a surprise considering the length of time since my last wet shave. Moisturazor was massaged in to my face and the shaving experience was complete.
This was my first shave of this type and would highly recommend it, and the Shave Doctor products, to any gents who wet shave regularly. My skin felt incredible ( I knew this as I couldn't stop rubbing it all day!)
I can't think of anywhere that offers this service between Cheltenham and Oxford so it is brilliant that it has finally reached the North Cotswolds!

One thing Cheltenham has been lacking since the closure of Cotswold Bowl in 2010 is Ten Pin Bowling! That was until the recent opening of Hollywood Bowl in The Brewery which brings more than a taste of the USA to the town!
To your right is the arcade area - the thought of visiting that after our game was genuinely exciting.
We had booked one game which we knew at the time was probably not enough. We did think £6.95 for a single game was a little steep, yet, it has been a few years! If you book multiple games the price does decrease a little. We checked in and to our delight were not forced to wear shoes that had been worn all day by others! A quick visit to the surprisingly reasonable bar we reached our lane. It did look shorter though that could be an age thing too! After 20 minutes it was over. Obviously if there were more than 3 of us the game would last longer. We decided to book another game (or two as it turned out) which we had to wait an hour for as it was all booked up. This gave us the opportunity to grab some food and "hit" the arcade! The menu (and the seating area) is very "American Diner" and pretty good value.
Although "a little confusing" (to quote our friendly and helpful waiter) the choice of burgers is good as you get to choose your topping/extras all for the same price, and they all come with a healthy side portion of fries. For all of our burger followers we are happy to report that the burger was good and you could tell it was 'properly' made!
This place was made for parties and it certainly has that atmosphere. There is a 4 lane VIP area which is the same price and the normal lanes but you do have to book the whole lot.
This is the perfect venue for any parties of any age and a fantastic alternative to the start of a Friday or Saturday night. We will return ourselves very soon.
